KBR to build 30 roads for Doha Expressway
Dubai: Kellogg, Brown and Roots (KBR), a large infrastructure construction company in the US, said, it has been awarded a contract by the Public Works Authority of Qatar to provide programme management services and engineering support to deliver a package of 30 major roads that comprise the Doha Expressway Programme.
KBR will serve as programme manager for the design and construction of the 30 Expressway Projects over five years. The contract is part of Qatar's $20 billion (Dh73.45 billion) roads building programme, designed to improve traffic flow, and reduce congestion, travel times and environmental impacts. Among KBR's primary services will be minimising disruption to current traffic flow and the effective communication of disruptions to the public and Qatar authorities throughout the life of the project.
"KBR is pleased to support the Qatari government in delivering this significant infrastructure project," said Colin Elliott, President, KBR Infrastructure and Minerals. "This contract builds on our considerable portfolio of programme management services for infrastructure projects in the Gulf region, and reinforces KBR's position as a leading, reliable engineering firm in the Middle East."
KBR is a global engineering, construction and services company supporting the energy, hydrocarbon, government services, minerals, civil infrastructure, power and industrial markets.
Industry milestones
In 1901, Morris W. Kellogg opened a tiny pipe fabrication business in New York that would become a world-class engineering firm known as M.W. Kellogg. Kellogg's engineering expertise led to creation of new technologies, and industry milestones, including building the world's first catalytic cracking facility in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1942 and Europe's first crude oil-based liquid ethylene cracking facility in 1956.
Kellogg revolutionized fertiliser production in the 1960s through the creation of a new ammonia process, making it possible for a rapid growth in global food production.
Today, KBR employs over 40,000 people worldwide in locations that include the US, Australia, Africa, the UK, Asia and the Middle East.
